Frank Capra Award 2010

Film International is pleased to announce the official rules for its fourth annual Frank Capra Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Film Criticism.

Eligibility Guidelines

This contest is open to any undergraduate student, currently enrolled at an institution of higher learning (or set to graduate in fall 2009 or spring 2010) worldwide and working towards a bachelor’s degree in any field. Residents of countries or states where such contests are restricted are ineligible; previous winners (but not those applicants who received honorable mentions) are not eligible for this or any future Frank Capra Award contest. Any original piece of written scholarship, previously unpublished and authored solely by the applicant, involving film criticism, history, or theory will be accepted. Submissions will be assessed by a panel of three judges—film studies academics/scholars from various institutions—and will undergo a blind peer review process, typical of scholarly journals.

  1. Applicant must submit:

    1. Completed application form (to download form, please click the link to the PDF document below).

    2. Four paper copies of essay. Each copy should include: (1) cover sheet, listing only applicant name, title of essay, and institutional affiliation; (2) 100-word abstract, summarizing the content of the essay; (3) essay; and (4) footnotes or endnotes.

    3. Electronic version of essay in Microsoft Word, on floppy disc or CD-ROM. Be sure to label disc with applicant name, title of essay, and institutional affiliation.

  2. Please note: applicant name and institutional affiliation must be included on cover sheet of essay copies ONLY, and nowhere else within the text, in order to aid the blind peer review process.
